A couple of days later, Gopal was presented with 25 bullock carts full of cotton and silk threads. He reached the Nawab’s palace and ordered the bullock carts to be parked outside. He went inside and stated the purpose of his visit. The Nawab was instantly delighted to hear that his curiosity might finally be satisfied.

“All right then,” said the Nawab, “where are the measurements?”

Gopal looked at the Nawab, smiled and said, “Follow me, Your Excellency. Your answer is waiting outside for you.”

The Nawab followed without any hesitation. Outside, he was surprised to see the row of bullock carts but he kept his patience, curious as the sight was.

“Well, if you take a look at the thread in the first 14 carts, you’ll find the length of the Earth. The remaining thread in the 11 carts has the breadth of the Earth,” said Gopal with a confident face. Everyone present was a little astounded by his claim, especially the Nawab.

The Nawab held one of the balls of thread and said, “What if the measurement is inaccurate?”
